Plakias is a small coastal village about 35km of Rethymnon. It is a popular destination for Brits and Germans in particular, although there are many other nationalities to be found there. Plakias has a plethora of accommodation ranging from a basic campsite to modern hotels. There is a beautiful youth hostel only a few minutes walk from the main street which is often full of international travellers enjoying the relaxed atmosphere. The youth hostel is highly recommended by many guide books and it remains one of the cheapest options for accommodation in Plakias. There a number of rent rooms scattered around the village as well as a few hotels. The tavernas in Plakias are all good value for money and fresh seafood is served at the majority of them. Plakias has several bars as well as two nightclubs. The bars are usually open until around 2am with the nightclubs staying open until as late as 7am.
