I got dismissed from Jury duty. yeah. I thought i was going to have to sit in there for all 10 days and miss school this week. But today the clerk lady who takes our attendance was dismissing people right and left.

I had no idea what to expect when i went in to fulfill my jury summons. It turns out after a 2 hour orientation you spend days waiting for your name to be called. Most people in the room were very, very unhappy to be there. This made me to decide to enjoy the experience as much as possible. I ran to the library and checked out some books. Then i started talking to the girl sitting by me. It was interesting. She's 21, Mormon, has a 3 year old kid and is married. Whew. On our way to lunch one day here parent-in-laws, her husband and daughter were standing on the street corner. So we all went to lunch together. I spent most of my time talking to her father-in-law. Turns out he became a Mormon last year when some missionaries came to his door. Before that he was a marginal Catholic. Never went to church and didn't own a bible. Now he's in church every Sunday and reads the books all the time. I asked him what attracted him to Mormonism and he said he has never felt such a strong sense of community in his life. Even though he left his predominantly Salvadorean congregation and moved up north to Sacramento, he and his wife still feel the strong sense of community.

I was never seated on a jury. They didn't even call my name to go sit in the box. When we got called for our first panel and the clerk was calling the potential jurors to go sit in the jurors box, i was bouncing in my seat with excitement. I happened to be sitting by two very old white men. And they turn to me and they're like- this must be your first time here. But it was interesting because i could tell who the lawyers would reject. The judge asked the potential jurors sitting in the box if they had any relatives or friends who had been incarcerated or arrested. This one lady replied that she had lots of criminals in her family. So the judge asks- who and what did they do. In response, she says all my cousins are criminals. They do drugs, robbery everything. She seemed overwhelmed with the idea of having to list their transgressions individually.

On Sunday we went to Faithful Central. They had their Easter service at the Great Western Forum. Estimated number in attendance, 10,800. It was amazing being at Church with all those people. i'm used to 6,000 or so but 10,000+ is huge. Ok the cool part of service, besides the message, was praise and worship. We were singing this song with a line/ chorus- "O Clap your hands". And when you sing this song you do something like the electric slide except you don't turn around you just go from right to left. Anyhow i'm getting into it trying to do different clap combos. I look up on stage and i see someone getting down. I mean dancing. So the camera focuses on the person and it's the pastor. He was just enjoying himself and spinning around his section of the stage. It was awesome.
