Pune:
The city of
is, for me, one of the best cities in India. It adorns itself with a historical
background and a crown of educational and cultural values. It was, at one
time, the capital of the Peshwas, who ruled the Deccan Plateau in the eighteenth
century. Bestowed with an abundance of educational institutions, it attracts
mostly the knowledge- thirsty individuals. The University
of Pune, with it's soul-inspiring motto "We must know something from
everything and everything from something", still stands second in ranking,
next only to the prestigious Bombay University. More information about
this beautiful city can be found by clicking on the above link.
Though located at only about 150 kilometers from
Bombay, Pune stills maintains it's industrial importance. Most of India's
industrial giants like Telco,
Thermax,
Bajaj,
Finolex
have their production units in the industrial estate outside Pune. In addition,
Pune has a proximity to many historical forts, namely Sinhagad, Lohagad,
Shivneri, Pratapgad, Raigad, Rajgad, which is why Pune is, in a sense,
a trekker's
paradise.
A special mention has to be made of "Vaishali",
the restaurant, where I have spent most of my Sunday mornings, while in
India, with my friend-circle, SATGANG.
