To that end, Northeast has developed a Sportsmanship Action Plan, which was first implemented in October, 1997. That action plan has been modified for the 1999-2000 school year
School Goal: The athletic department at Northeast High School will promote sportsmanship among all its members and at all activities.
2. The athletic department will attempt to provide information, ie. directions, schedules, etc., by use of a phone answering system (410 437-3284) and over the Internet (www.geocities.com/CollegePark/Gym/2553).
3. A staff member will be designated to welcome visiting teams and officials to all athletic activities and to inform them of the available facilities, ie. locker rooms, changing areas, ice and water, warm-up areas, etc.
4. A pre-game sportsmanship announcement is read at all activities where a public address system is available.
5. An admissions policy poster and a sportsmanship poster are displayed at all events where an admission fee is charged.
6. An athletic trainer is available for both teams at most varsity athletic contests.
7. The athletic department will work closely with the school business manager and school custodial staff to make sure that all facilities are clean and attractive.
Supervision: The school should provide a safe environment that is conducive to a positive athletic experience.
2. Administrative coverage is scheduled, and off-season coaches are assigned for supervision, for all night athletic activities.
3. Reciprocal supervision is promoted at athletic activities.
4. An athletic trainer and/or ambulance service is available at most athletic events.
5. School personnel and/or police will be designated to escort visiting teams to their bus when necessary.
6. Northeast will use the new coaches evaluation form, recently adopted by AACPS, to reflect adherence to county and individual school sportsmanship initiatives.
Participants: The entire school community should play an active role in assuring that sportsmanship is displayed at all athletic events.
2. The athletic director will meet with all coaches prior to the beginning of each season to review the sportsmanship plan.
3. Coaches of each sport will be responsible for sharing the sportsmanship plan with team members and their parents.
4. Athletes who are removed/ejected from a contest will be subject to disciplinary action as outlined in the Anne Arundel County Public Schools Athletic Handbook.
5. Any Northeast coach who is removed/ejected from an athletic contest will be ineligible to coach in the next scheduled contest for the team. Before coaching eligibility is restored, the coach will have a conference with the principal and the athletic director.
6. Inappropriate behavior by a fan or spectator may result in the removal of that person from an athletic contest. Depending on the nature of the behavior, consideration will be given to barring that person from future events.
7. One male and one female athlete will be recognized as the "Sportsman of the Season" at the sports awards assemble at the end of each sports season.
