Welcome to the Pearl of The Indian Ocean

Hello to all of you, friends and visitors. You've come to a special corner in my little world. This is the corner where I show you around my true home, the Great Red Island of many natural wonders: MADAGASCAR. This past summer, as many of you know, I had the privilege to go back for the first time in years to this isolated place on Earth and discover things I had never seen before! It is now time to show you what has made Madagascar an unforgettable place for me. Note: while this gallery is not complete yet, you can still enjoy what I have so far! :-)

Maps of Madagascar

A Gorgeous Beach

This is a beach on the island of Nosy Be. See how different it looks from the crowded, commercialized beaches we have here in the United States. Here, you can actually come and relax because most of the time, there are so few people. It's so beautiful and peaceful. I truly enjoyed myself there. The weather was absolutely gorgeous that day and for once, I did take a long dip into the water! Of course, feeling the hot sun hitting on my skin was another story. No wonder I came back with a rather deep tan! :-)

Sunset by A Peaceful Lake

Here's the picture of a natural lake located near Antsirabe (see maps) about 200 km. south of Antananarivo, Madagascar's capital. I caught the beautiful sunset on picture, but I must say that seeing it with my own eyes was a much more satisfying experience. What a wonderful place to spend a quiet afternoon! Being there made me feel certain nostalgia about my life and about my good friends in the USA!

Malagasy Countryside

Here's the view you'd typically get of the landscape in the center of the island if you were looking down from an airplane. I took this photograph standing on the mountain that looks down on the lake shown below. Notice the redness of the Earth. This redness is why Madagascar has often been referred to as the "Great Red Island."
