She's crafty: Hand Knit Infant Clothes with Classic Vintage Style
Shescrafty.com is a new boutique label based in the latest fashion hot spot, New Zealand. The label is owned and run by American designer Hadley Fierlinger. Hadley specializes in a line of merino wool hand knit babywear that she's now making available in the U.S. The yarns are spun from merino sheep that graze on the hillsides in the land of the long white cloud, Aotearoa, New Zealand. Hadley has designed the hand knitted baby clothes to reflect the vintage garments knit by generations past.
Having young children of her own, Hadley naturally developed a love of infant apparel, seeking out classic European clothing and knitwear at local boutiques in her home town of San Francisco. "I've always treasured the look of vintage styles on infants because the clothes emphasize those cherished baby moments," she explains. Hadley took up knitting so she could create hand knit clothes for her children, with the hope that the clothes could be passed down as treasured infant heirlooms by future generations. "Like most women of my generation, I didn't learn to knit from my mother. I wanted to get back in touch with my crafty roots. I soon realized that it takes a huge amount of patience and skill to create a hand knit garment. It deepened my respect for the process and the skill involved in creating a fine hand knit garment".
In December 2001, Hadley moved to New Zealand with her husband and their 2 year old son. Her interest in knitting soon became an obsession. "There are generations of highly skilled knitters in New Zealand and some of the world's most excuisite merino wool yarn. I was in heaven!" Hadley began designing infant knitwear and having her designs hand made by talented local knitters. "I was really impressed with the high quality of the garments. I began to take orders from friends in the U.S. The response was overwhelming."
Hadley works from her studio in Wellington, the capital city of New Zealand. Her full line includes knits for newborns to 12 months, made from the finest merino and organic merino wool. New Zealand Merino is considered to be the finest quality wool available, providing superb warmth without the itchy texture - which makes it ideal for a baby's delicate skin. It is warm but most importantly allows baby's body temperature to regulate itself instead of overheating as with many synthetic materials such as polar fleece.

Items are shipped from New Zealand via Air Mail, which takes 5-10 days internationally. Tracking is available at additional cost. Returns are welcome within 30 days and shipping is paid for by the purchaser. Please let us know if you are sending the items as a gift and we can ship it to arrive on the the occasion with our signature gift wrapping.
