The History of Theta Lambda Chapter

CHAPTER HISTORY
On October 9, 1976, five men became Charter Members to the Chapter that would become Theta Lambda. It wasn't until November 4, 1976 that the application for the Charter was granted. Since that day, and each day thereafter, it has been known as Theta Lambda Chapter of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.

With the approval of our former Eastern Regional Director, Bro. Clayton McNeill, former National President, Bro. J.E. Westberry, which was attested by former National Executive Secretary, Bro. William E. Doar, Jr., Theta Lambda Chapter was officially established on the campus of Pace University in New York City on January 17, 1977. Further assistance was given by Bro. Greville French and Our esteemed National President Bro. Peter Adams, Esq. Theta Lambda Chapter has had actor Giancarlo Esposito (Dean Big Brother Almighty from School Days), and Mitchell Titus & Co. (esteemed black owned New York Acccounting firm) to name a few that has graced the halls of Pace University.

The chapter went defuncted in 1982 and went on a hiatus until 1986 when Bro. Oceloa Jackson, who pledged Iota Phi Chapter in Fall 1983, initiated Bro. Greg Gardner into the Fraternity and helped to reactivate the chapter. Theta Lambda remained active on the Pace New York campus until 1990 when the chapter became active on the Pleasantville campus as well.

In the next few years following the move to Pleasantville, Theta Lambda was voted the most productive fraternity (as well as Alpha Chi Epsilon Fraternity) and received a Meritorious Service Award from the Dean of Students. For our diligent work in the City, we also received an award from Manhattan Borough President Ruth Messinger. The chapter once again went on a hiatus in 1995 for about two years until Bros. Nestor Olmo, Jarmaine Jackson, and Edwin James became Sigma men. However, the Pace/Pleasantville campus did not recognize Phi Beta Sigma until the Fall of 1998. Since then, the chapter has worked hard to maintain a presence on the campus and throughout the city by participating in events such as:

In an effort to ensure that the chapter did not die out again on the Pleasantville campus, four men entered the world of Sigma in the Spring of 1999. Together, these men have not only worked hard to keep the chapter functioning in Pleasantville, but also helped to reactivate the chapter in New York City as well through our Chapter motto "Starting a New Legacy 4 A New Millennium". Below is a list of all those men that have crossed the burning sands and became members of the Illustrious and Distinguished Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. - Theta Lambda Chapter "The Wax Museum".
