Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. was founded on January 16, 1920 on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. by five sophisticated and phenomenal women.


These women, Soror Arizona Clever Stemmons, Soror Fannie Pettie Watts, Soror Myrtle Tyler Faithful, Soror Pearle Anne Neal, and Soror Viola Tyler Goins, with the assistance of Bro. Abram Langston Tayor and Bro. Charles Robert Taylor of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., dared to depart from the traditional coalitions for Black women and sought to establish a new organization predicated on the precepts of Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood and Finer Womanhood. The trail blazed by the founders has been traversed by thousands of women dedicated to the emulation of the objectives and ideals of the Sorority.


Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. was one of the first Greek-letter organizations to charter a chapter in Africa (1948). The first to form adult and youth auxilary groups:

  • Archonettes
  • Amicettes
  • Pearlettes


  • Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. is also the first to be Constitutionally bounded to a fraternal organziation, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.


    Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. local and national programs include endowment of its National Educational Foundational, community outreach services, and support of multiple affiliate organizations. Zeta chapters and auxilary groups have given untotaled hours of voluntary services to educate the public by assisting youths, providing scholarships, supporting organized charities and promoting legislation for civic and social change. Zeta Phi Beta is a non-profit organization.


    Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. is incorporated in Washington, D.C. and in the states of North Carolina and Illinois. The Sorority is supported by the dues and gifts of its members. The Archon is the national publication of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.


    The Seven Point Plan for Action by Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. is being introduced as the capstone of programmic operation. "While we build on the past it is critical that we plan a future for Zeta - one which we will be recognized for the quality of work performed and the demonstration of a sincere commitment to a turbulent, struggling world. This can only be done if we prepare for the 21st century - The New Millenium... through service, technology, education and leadership.
