JOIN AND BE COUNTED

If you were a student or a member of the teaching staff, you are eligible to join our Association. The annual membership dues are only $15.00. For this fee you receive many benefits, such as bi-annual newsletter, reduced admission charge for certain functions, and will be included in our members-only functions. You will also be able to vote at the Annual General Meetings and have access to the financial records and minute book. Furthermore all members in good standing can be nominated and voted onto the Executive Committee.

We have also voted at our last AGM in May,1998 to accept associate members. They can include spouses, relatives and friends who feel they have something to bring to our Association. The associate members will enjoy all the perks as a regular member, except they will not be eligible to sit on the executive committee.

Our major events each year so far are our Annual Spring Dance, our now-famous Last Lap Lime with St. Roses, St. Stanislaus, Bishops, and Queens on the Caribana Week-end in August, and our Annual Fall Brunch. We also held an Open-house together with our AGM in May 1998.

We are current discussing plans for a members-only function and details will be forth comming in the New Year (1999).

We are formulating plans for a bursary program to benefit youth of Guyanese Heritage here in Canada, preferably offsprings of our Alumni Members. We hope to have this up and running for OAC graduates starting post-secondary studies in September 1999. Stay tuned for details as they become available.

We have been advised by both the Georgetown and USA chapter of the Alumni that there are plans in the works for a reunion in Guyana in the year 2000. We will announce details as we receive them and anyone interested can contact us.

Our major goal for 1999 is to increase our membership base significantly. This is where you can all play a big part. Be persuasive and recruit those new members. We would particularly like to see graduates after 1975 as well as our male alumni. So make that extra special effort. WE WELCOME AND APPRECIATE ALL THE HELP.

Our newsletter committee also needs lot of help. We are hoping to expand our paper, but we can only do so with your help. If you have some expertise in this area we can certainly use you. Or if you have articles to contribute, don't be shy. Send them along to us.

But most of all, GET INVOLVED. It is quite a rewarding experience.
