This race originated in 1981 because Bob Burgess, now a city councilman in Silsbee and a Sea Rim Strider running club member, wanted a run in the Silsbee area. It was always held the Saturday of Easter weekend.

Situated in the Piney Woods right outside of the city of Silsbee the course started at the Crescent Club on Village Creek. It was an out and back course. In 1989, the last year the race was held, they had two races, a 5 and a 10K.
