The Contraband 5 Miler race, held in Lake Charles, Louisiana usually during the 2nd week of May each year, has been around for years and is one of the largest races in Southwest Louisiana and Southeast Texas. The race route was changed in the early nineties from the Civic Center start and finish to the Calcasieu Marine Tower across the street.
The current course starts at the Calcasieu Marine Tower and continues along Shell Beach Drive to Riverside Drive, then to Sallier Street, then to Marine Street (Port of Lake Charles), to Shell Beach Drive, then continues along the lakefront past beautiful historic turn-of-the-century homes. The race culminates back at the Calcasieu Marine Tower. This route offers a beautiful and scenic view of Lake Charles.
