Michael's Movie Page

Welcome to Michael's Movies Page!! Here you will find my list of what I consider the greatest movies ever, starting with my favorite.

1

Lawrence of Arabia

Lawrence of Arabia, the tragic story of WW1 British officer T.E. Lawrence, is no doubt the greatest movie ever ever made. Starring Peter O'Toole and Anthony Quinn, and directed by the legendary David Lean, Lawrence swept the Oscars in 1962, winning seven Academy Awards including Best Picture.

2

Back to the Future

The second greatest movie ever, Back to the Future stars Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd, and is the exciting story of a wacky inventor (Lloyd) who invents a time machine and accidentally sends his young friend (Fox) back to 1955! This is definately a MUST SEE!

3

Jurassic Park

Next in line is the action-packed, terror-filled blockbuster Jurassic Park. Okay, I know what you're thinking, but I still believe that Jurassic Park one of the best movies. It has everything: drama, action, humor, and thrill. In case you didn't know already, it stars Sam Neil, Laura Dern, and Samuel Jackson, and probes the terrifying consequences of using genetic engineering to create real dinosaurs.

4

Goodfella's

Some will say that The Godfather is the greatest mob movie of all time, but I will have to disagree and give that title to Goodfella's. It is the story of Henry Hill, who rose to the top of the organized crime ladder only to fall in a haze of drugs and alcohol. There is much more to the story, but I can't really put it into words without giving to much away. The directing by Martin Scorcese and the acting performances by Ray Liotta, Robert DeNiro, and Joe Pesci are incredible.

5

Glory

Definately the best of the Civil War films, Glory stars Matthew Broderick as the colonel of the Massachusetts all-black 54th Regiment and Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman as soldiers. Denzel won an oscar for his performance as an angry ex-slave determined to fight anyone or anything. This movie is extraordinarily powerful and billiant.

6

Gladiator

This movie is definately one of the most awesome films ever made. Russel Crowe gives a powerful performance as the title character, giving the character an unprecedented depth and brilliance. If you haven't seen it, rent it now. Enough said.

7

Amadeus

In fifth places is the epic story of envy and genius, Milos Forman's Amadeus (1984). This is the tale of Mozart's rise and fall through the eyes of the Austrian Court Composer Antonio Salieri, whose jealousy of Mozart's talent leads him to denounce God and ultimately kill Mozart! The music and directing is fabulous, as well as the performances by Tom Hulce (Mozart) and F. Murray Abraham (Salieri).

8

Bridge on the River Kwai

Even of you're not a fan of older movies, you'll have to admit that Bridge on the River Kwai is awesome. Directed by the same director of Lawrence of Arabia (David Lean) and starring William Holden and Sir Alec Guinness, the film is about a Japanese-controlled prisoner of war camp in Asia during WWII. Holden plays an American who escapes from the camp only to return on a secret mission to destroy the bridge that the British prisoners (led by Alec Guinness) have just built.

9

Schindler's List

If you haven't experienced this movie, you are truly missing out. This film, starring Liam Nieson and directed by Stephen Speilberg, is so powerful and emotional that it borders on disturbing. It is the story of Oscar Schindler (Nieson) and his attempt to save his Jewish workers from death in the Holocaust death camps. If you don't cry, you definately need sensitivity therapy.

10

The Patriot

Despite the fact that this film is brand new and I have only seen it twice, it is still one of my favorites. Mel Gibson puts on an amazing performance as Benjamin Martin, the family man turned war hero. The attention to detail and the help of the Smithsonian Institute during filming is quite evident.

11

Apollo 13

How could anyone not love Apollo 13? It is an incredible film by Ron Howard about the failed Apollo 13 space mission to the moon. As if the wonderful acting wasn't enough, the movie has great special effects and makes the audience feel liked they're trapped in the ship right along with the crew.

12

Saving Private Ryan

There are some films that are just too powerful for most people to really love . . . Saving Private Ryan is one of them. This film accurately captures the essence of WWII, particularly the invasion of Normandy in 1944. It is very graphic and dramatic, but there are time when you think you are actually there in the battle with the men.

13

Amistad

From the same brilliant director of Schindler's List, Steven Speilberg, comes the powerful epic of the mutiny on the slave ship Amistad and the legal battle to save the lives of the would-be slaves. This is probably one of the most depressing films I have seen, but you also walk away with the hope that America can rise above thev sins of its past and become a better nation.

14

The Last of the Mohicans

What can I say about this film? If you've seen it, you know how amazing it is. There is action, drama, and adventure. The movie takes place during the French and Indian War before America won its independence, and is the story of love, war, and survival.

15

Three Kings

In case you haven't noticed, I like war movies, and Three Kings is no exception. This is a great film about the Gulf War and about America's place in the world. It raises some important questions about US foreign policy on top of being a kick-ass film.

16

The Great Escape

So many movies and tv shows have been based on this movie it is amazing. This was the first of those wonderful movies and shows about WWII prisoners escaping by means of creative and unique methods. Even the music is famous!

17

Philadelphia

This is an extremely powerful film about AIDS and HIV, as well as a telling look at American society and our legal system. Tom Hanks puts on one of his best performances, and Denzel Washington matches him. Be prepared to cry.

18

Life is Beautiful

The best way to describe this film is to say that it is a comedy about the Holocaust. But, you ask, what can be funny about the Holocaust? You have to see the film to understand. You laugh hard and then cry just as hard. Only the comic genius Roberto Begnini could create something this wonderful. It is about a father who tries to sheild his young son from the horrors of a Nazi death camp by pretending it is a game. Trust me, you have to see it.

19

Young Frankenstein

One of the greatest comedies of all time is Mel Brooks classic Young Frankenstein. Featuring Gene Wilder as the obsessed gradson of the original Dr.Frankenstein and Marty Feldman as the comically odd lab assistant Igor, Young Frankenstein is loaded with the best comic material ever. For great laughs, check this one out!
