The way that can be spoken of
Is not the constant way;
The name that can be named
Is not the constant name.
The nameless was the beginning of heaven
and earth;
The named was the mother of the myriad
creatures.
Hence always rid yourself of desires in
order to observe its secrets;
But always allow yourself to have desires
in order to observe its manaifestations.
These two are the same
But diverge in name as they issue forth.
Being the same they are called mysteries,
Mystery upon mystery -
The gateway of the manifold secrets.
-Tao Te Ching, I
Words and mind go to Him,
But reach Him not and return.
But he who knows the joy of Brahman,
fears no more.
-Taittiriya Upanishad
It is not thought which we should want
to know;
We should know the thinker.
-Kaushitaki Upanishad
To see a world in a grain of sand,
And a Heaven in a wild flower,
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand,
And Eternity in an hour.
-unknown
When one sees Eternity in things that pass
away
And Infinity in finite things,
Then one has pure knowledge.
But if one merely sees the diversity of
things,
With their dividions and limitations,
Then one has impure knowledge.
And if one selfishly sees a thing as if
it were everything,
Independent of the One and the many,
Then one is in the darkness of ignorance.
-Bhagavad Gita, xviii. 20-22
In any way that men love me,
In that same way they find my love:
For many are the paths of men,
But they all in the end come to me.
-Bhagavad Gita
This above all, to thine own self be true;
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.
-Hamlet, of Shakespeare
The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not fear.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures
And leadeth me beside quiet streams.
He gives me new strength.
He helps me do what honors him most.
Even though I walk through the valley
of death,
I shall not fear,
For the Lord is close beside me,
Guarding me,
Guiding me all the way.
-The Bible, Psalm 23: 1- 4
I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
No one can get to the Father except by
means of me.
-The Bible, John 14: 6
There is nothing better for a man than
to be happy
And enjoy himself as long as he can;
That he should eat and drink and enjoy
the fruits of his labors,
For these are gifts from God.
And I know this, that whatever God does
is final,
Nothing can be added or taken from it...
Whatever is has been long ago;
And whatever is going to be has been before;
God brings to pass again what was in the
distant past and disappeared.
-Ecclesiastes, 3: 12-14
1. God; Eternity; the Cosmos; Time; Generation.
2. God maketh Eternity;
Eternity maketh the COsmos;
The Cosmos maketh Time;
Time maketh Generation.
3. The Substance, or Essence,
Of God, is the Good, the Beautiful, The
Blessedness, and Wisdom;
Of Eternity, is Identity and Sameness;
Of the Cosmos, is Order;
Of Time, is Change;
Of Generation, is Life and Death.
4. The Operation, Energy,
or Activity
Of God, is in the Soul;
Of Eternity, is in Permanence and Immortality;
Of the Cosmos, is in Integration and Re-integration;
Of Time, is in Augmentation and Diminution;
Of Generation, is in Qualities.
5. Therefore, Eternity is
in God;
The Cosmos is in Eternity;
Time is in the Cosmos;
Generation is in Time.
6. Eternity abides with God;
The Cosmos is moved in Eternity;
Time is accomplished in the Cosmos;
Generation takes place in Time.
7. Therefore, the Source and
Foundation of All is God,
But the Essence of Substance is Eternity;
And the Matter is the Cosmos.
8. The Power of God is Eternity;
The Work of Eternity is the Cosmos,
Which is unmanifest and also ever being
made manifest by Eternity.
9. Therefore, the Cosmos shall
never be destroyed, nor the things in it perish,
For Eternity is indestructible,
and the Cosmos is contained and encompassed
by Eternity.
-The Divine Pymander of Hermes Trismegistus
(egyptian sage)
Since the beginning of man, there has been religion, in many forms, on all the continents. The celebration and recognition of the divine, of something beyond mankind, something better than mankind, yet something linked intimately to mankind's existence. Various traditions developed each with their own dogma and truths. Yet veiwed from afar, these truths don't seem so separate at all to me, but instead seem to form a repeating pattern, reaching out of the corporeal, struggling toward the divine. Unfortunately this common thread in all religions is not apparent to everyone. And to this day, some religions struggle to demolish other religions. Needless to say, such an attitude is supremacist and genocidal in nature. It ignores the innate knowledge that all persons are created with equal value and all are due equal freedom.
This page is here to promote awareness of this issue, in hopes that further understanding can be reached in the realms of religion.
