Club Profile

The Ofey Club is a Science Club formed by undergraduates of the Faculty of Science of the University of Colombo.

The Ofey Club came into being to fulfill the absence of a much needed mediator between professionals in different scientific disciplines and the laymen. By organising lectures, demonstrations, observational facilities and the like, we sincerely hope that we can harness the plethora of knowledge of our teachers and through this process gain much insight into the wonders of nature and the modern world and most importantly to pass the knowledge beyond the boundaries of our institution.

A word about the club's name: the word 'Ofey' captured our imagination after reading about the life and times of Nobel laureate Prof. Richard P. Feynman who is regarded as one of the all time greats of Physics, not only for his intellectual brilliance but also for his humour. He started painting in his middle age and signed his paintings 'Ofey', which in the original French - 'au fait' - meant 'it's done'.

The initiative has been taken to gather knowledge and disseminate it although on a very small scale. We invite all those who can make contributions towards this effort to contact us.
