How To Become Greek

Costs

The financial obligation that accompanies membership differs slightly from chapter to chapter. Each chapter is self supporting, functioning from dues paid by its members. The first year of membership is generally higher due to initiation fees. In succeeding years the average dues and fees range from $50-75 per semester. This covers items such as operating expenses, leadership programs, and new member recruitment.

The Time Factor

Greek membership requires anywhere from 2 to 8 hours a week. Whether it be planning a party, a community service project, or regular weekly meetings, fraternity members have learned to manage their time wisely with other commitments like and work. This is also why so many Greek members have succeeded in their lives.

Rushing

Rush is the time when the fraternities seek and recruit new men to join. It is a time when students on campus have an opportunity to visit each fraternity and compare what each has to offer so that he/she may chose the best one for him/her to join. Rush does not cost you anything. All of the Open Houses and Rush functions are free! More importantly going to Open Houses or Rush functions does not commit you to joining a fraternity.

Greek life may not be for everyone, but before you dismiss it and decide that it's not for you, give it a chance and attend some rush meetings. Most importantly, though, you should approach it with an open mind and check out each organization.
