Heather's work: PA Herald

Hey, all.

Just wanted to get my name off the list.

Anyway, not much is new out this-a-way. I just survived the federal election. I think they should have a badge for that or something. The MP who got in here, Brian Fitzpatrick (Alliance) doesn't seem to be my biggest fan for some reason. He is however Tipper's biggest fan. When I showed up last night to cover his win, he asked if Stephen had been ousted and why I was covering him when Stephen was up to now, yadda yadda yadda. And then he proceeds to mix me up with the new CTV anchor Skye Ryan, which can be an insult. And if that weren;t enough, he proceeds to ream me out for an editorial I didn't even write. But yes, I survived.

Not only did I survive, but I returned to the newsroom and proceeded to write an article focusing entirely on his comments about getting scalped even though he doesn't have much hair. You're probably familiar with that since it made the Globe and Mail. Bigmouth.

More along my lines of expertise, I recently finished covering the Naomi Ross double-murder. Found not guilty, what a shock. Anyway, I learned some valuable information about the voir dire during that one.

Other than that, nothing is too new. I still have no life outside of the Planet Herald. But that's okay. I think I have decided to give up hope and form my own convent with some other chicks at work. It will likely be located in Mexico and umbrella drinks are part of daily communion. Any takers?

Hope all is well with everyone. I'll try to keep in touch more often to keep my name off that dreaded list.

So sorry it took me so long to write in, but here it is. First of all, I am still alive. That is the main thing.

I'm still at the P.A. Herald, doing court reporting, which I find qute interesting. I'm actually quite surprised by the number of people who hate the idea of court reporting. I'd much rather sit in court listening to the grisly details of a murder than sit in City Hall listening to a bunch of old guys arguing over what colour to paint the fire hydrants (no kidding, they really discussed that, at some length I might add). So all in all, I'm enjoying the job.

The town isn't thrilling exactly, but that's life. A lot of trips into Saskatoon are usually one way to remedy that, I suppose. It is nice to have some money for a change though instead of spending it all the time. Those students loans are returning to haunt me.

Anyway, that's my life at the moment. Hope all is well with everyone else.

Tipper and Polischuk are taking P.A. by storm -- Heather put in 74(!) hours last week covering a trial. Damn jury (a sequestered one, to boot) deliberated for six whole days, including Saturday and Sunday. Heather didn't get to write pages and pages of copy, but she now knows Queen's Bench inside and out now. Plus, rumour has it she's dating one of the clerks, too -- that girl works fast.

I (that being me, Chad) got an email from Heather the other day saying she was hired on at the PA Herald, so she will be leaving the Queen City sometime in the future.
