I feared being put on an MIA list - I have been on other lists before and most of them involved the Brandon City Police, so I decided to end the silence.

A big hearty hello from Toronto, home of traffic problems and the world's happiest mayor, who was re-elected yesterday. Great. 2 more years of Mel Lastman telling us how great this city can be. I can't wait.

Anyway, life at TSN is good. I am working full-time (actually about 60 hours a week) on NBA basketball. Good for the bank account, bad for the social life. But, as you can imagine it is a lot of fun for me. I interviewed Steve Nash a couple of weeks ago which was pretty cool - especially after his great performance at the Olympics. He was a great guy, as all Canadian athletes seem to be. I asked him about the time when he, playing for B.C., scored 44 points against Manitoba, while being guarded by yours truly. He said he was sorry for picking on me that day.

Jill, I agree with your stance on the CBC. I think it's a shame that all those big-heads from Toronto are taking over. But you have to understand that there are still millions of big-heads here if those ones ever quit. Believe me, it never ends here. I take the West-bashing in stride - knowing full well that those people need to say stuff like that to make them feel better about themselves. Oh well, to each their own. We know the West is best, that's all that matters.

Kristin, sorry I haven't called. I will soon, and we must go for lunch or something.

Renee, I will talk to you soon. But I'm sure there's plenty of "Sebastiens" and "Jean-Pierres" to keep you busy over there. You must be as happy as a fat kid in a candy store (is that offensive?)

Chad, keep up the good work. I love to hear how everyone is doing.

And finally Jenn - I beleive the poverty is bad in Vancouver, but I can honestly say I have never seen so many homeless people ever as I have here in Toronto. It is truly depressing.

But I do agree with one thing you said. I'm voting Marijuana Party. Why you ask? I just agree with some of their policies, that's all...

Just wanted everybody to know that I FINALLY GOT MY CHEQUE FROM THE GRENFELL SUN!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's right, only 152 short days after filing my last story, the cheque arrived at my home in Brandon. Near as my mom could tell, it had been sent 4 days earlier, meaning I actually got paid in LESS THAN FIVE MONTHS!!!

Now that's fast!

Take care and remember - never give up on a dream, especially if it involves money owed to you.

First of all, glad to finally here an update on Mr. Steinke. As a form of small protest to Chad's awesome site, I was not going to send in any more info about myself until I heard something about Darren. Alas, yesterday I logged on and there it was. Thank you Dave Freeman. And of course, thank you, the Stank.

Things are good here in the Smog belt. My girlfriend Susan just left after a 12 day visit which was very enjoyable. We managed to partake in a CFL game, a Blue Jays game, a Wide Mouth Mason concert, a Tea Party concert, a 3 day trip to Wasaga Beach on Lake Huron, and of course, many trips to Spadina Avenue for REAL chinese food. Susan also had an interview with PriceWaterhouseCoopers when she was here and got offered a cushy full-time job for when she finishes school in April. So it looks like I'll finally be able to retire. Thank god, work was starting to get to me. And somebody down here mentioned "do I hear wedding bells?" when they found out Susan was moving down here. Well I'll spare you the trouble of asking. No, there will be no wedding bells for a long time yet. Susan needs to establish her career in accounting first and I, well, I need to mature.

Had a nice visit with Bonnie Allen the other day as she made the trek down from Timmins. Apparently the snow just melted up there, so the highway was navigable (I love Toronto humour!). Bonnie and I pondered life over a few beers, and then after a few more beers decided life was all about drinking beer anyway. Funny how that happens.

Well on September 15th, I start "the shift from hell". Five of us get the enjoyable yet taxing task of compiling all the hilites from the Olympics in Australia each day. That means our shift is from 2AM to 11AM for 15 days straight. I volunteered for it because I have no kids or family to worry about down here. Plus we get paid a lot more for it, plus the Olympics are cool, so it should be fun. And you thought I drank a lot of coke before!

Take care all - glad to hear everyone is doing well. I STILL have no money from the Grenfell Sun. But Pat is on the case, so maybe I'll have it by our fifty-year reunion and I can buy you all a drink.

Feel free to call my work number any time and leave rude messages - everyone else does.

First, I have to start on a very sad note. Some of you may have heard me talk about my best friend Spencer who lived in Calgary. He is who I went to visit a number of times - including going snowboarding with him and his girlfriend Pam during Spring Break this year.

Shortly after that, Spencer got sick. The doctors didn't know what was wrong at first - then, they discovered a tumour on his brain in April.

Spencer died on June 10th in Calgary. He was 23. The last words he said to me on the phone 5 days earlier were "You don't know how lucky you are".

I don't mean to get all emotional or anything, but WE ARE ALL LUCKY. Spencer was a great guy who never hurt anyone, who was always there for his friends, who loved to live life. And this is what he got in return. So I would say to all you, go out and do the things you've always wanted to do. Because you never know when it might end. Fortunately, TSN gave me 4 days off to go to the funeral, they even offered to fly me back but I had already booked a flight. 3 of us - Spencer's 3 best friends gave the eulogy in front of 800 people. Spencer was certainly well liked.

ANYWAY - back to happier things. The Euro 2000 tournament is going very well. The soccer has been excellent. I have been doing a ton of fun stuff - mostly analysing the teams and doing stories on the match-ups. I don't think Jill's mother would care, but oh well.

I will be in Regina for a couple of days sometime between July 4th and 10th. I'm not sure when and I'm not sure who is still in the beautiful Queen City, but I am always open to consuming a few beverages, preferably of the lager variety.

Also, has anyone from Pat's print class received a payment from their weekly paper yet? I still HAVE NOT from the good folks at the mighty Grenfell Sun. Am I surprised? No. Am I bitter? Well, yes. Please someone let me know what is up.

I thought I should send out a mass E-mail to tell you all my new phone numbers in case you need to reach me. I am now in Toronto and working my third day back at TSN, and lucky enough to be doing all soccer stuff. It is a dream job for me. I look through soccer footage and do stories about players, teams, rivalries, etc.. - tough break! And I'm getting paid too! TSN is covering the EURO 2000 tournament starting on June 9, and the stories I do will appear on the pre-game show and during the broadcasts of the games. So watch and enjoy the soccer.

If you need to catch me at any time, it's best to try my cell phone. I always have it on me and leave it on all the time. And if any of you are in Toronto or coming there, make sure you call me so we can go out for 1 or 10 drinks. I am working long hours so I might need a few!!

Kevin is in Brandon right now. He will be around Regina off and on until the end of May when he goes to Toronto. He has been re-hired by TSN for the soccer show (I am not sure what its called off hand) as well as doing som Blue Jays stuff. He starts his job May 29 so he won't be around during Convication.

I'm not quite sure where he is, but I'm sure he's smoking some dope in his new home.
