Personal Information

Welcome to the world of Dan Needham... (pronounced "Need-um")
...and what a wonderful world it is...

I'm a 2nd year student at the University of Texas, Austin.  I play guitar, work on my Dell PC, chill out with buddies, and I like to give back to the community somewhere along the way too.  My major is Management Information Systems, but there are lots of us here at UT, so it isn't a greatly identifying feature.

Future & Goals

Career GoalsI hope to work in an Infomation Technology concentration.  I love learning new ways to be creative with technology.  I am building a standard repetoire of programming languages, not only because it makes a person more marketable, but because I get a thrill out of the problem solving and thought processes that such developement brings.  I also find strengths and livelihood in team projects where people who enjoy this line of work can bounce ideas off each other and work efficiently.  In this way consulting is interesting, though not ideal in the long-run.  I really enjoy systems implementation and all the technology that a future in IT has to offer.

Life Goals: I want more than anything to be a father and have a healthy, happy marriage.  I'm looking forward to raising kids, and I hope to do as good a job as my parents have with me. Does that sound bad? Probably. Anyway, in this age of divorce and broken families, I want to be someone who can show what true love, dedication and commitment can be.

I enjoy volunteering and I hope to continue to do so in the future. In the Fall of 1999, I worked with a recording studio that recorded books to audio for blind students. And currently I have been mentoring at the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Sadly, my mentee was recently pulled out of school, which means I am no longer his mentor, but I still feel that I made a small difference in his life. And thats a good goal: "to make a difference". I realize it may sound young and idealistic, but thats alright with me.

I am a firm believer that this world has been created by God. In fact, as a Christian, I want to grow in my faith and love for our savior, Jesus Christ. It hurts me to think of the spiritual battle that is going on in the world. But, I have been convicted that Christians are no better than those who don't believe. Ideally, we are only walking a path aimed at moral and spiritual atonement and realization. Everyone falls, everyone is corrupted, but it is the trial in one's heart that makes the distinction.

Music

Continue to

I recorded myself performing (guitar and vocals) some songs I wrote and then my roommate (the great Swarup) made them MP3 files.  The songs are Dan originals.  You'll need some sort of MP3 player to listen to the files.  Winamp is very common.
