Collected Poetry

Here are a few of the poems that I have written over the years. They seemed a great deal more profound and direct when I originally wrote them, but I haven't done anything better yet, so here they stay.

  • Oda a la Superestrella is my most recently completed poem, one that was written for my senior year of Spanish, and my personal favorite. (Middle of a Pablo Neruda unit, 'course!) If you have any suggestions for cleaning up my Spanish or, ah, English, I'd love to hear them!

  • A Spring Night (9th grade), one of my numerous Wisconsinish night poems.

  • Old Age (9th grade), 'nother one!

  • Notes from a Nursing Home (9th grade)

  • Angel Dust (9th grade) Rhythmically derivative of a Paul Simon song, can't remember which.

  • A Tiger in Detail (9th grade)

  • An Entertaining Musical (8th grade) Probably my best Wisconsin night poem. I don't quite understand why I was pleased as punch that I had crystallized a Bill Clinton moment at its end. :)

  • The War of Winter (8th grade), a turn-of-seasons poem

  • Disappointment (8th grade), a poem with a Prohibition flavor

  • The Owl, The Questioner (8th grade)

  • Light (7th grade) My first attempt at Romanticism, with a lighthouse and moors and everything
