National History

Alpha Delta Pi was founded on May 15, 1851 at Wesleyan Female College in Macon, GA, making it the first secret society for college women.  This society was founded for the purpose of the mental, moral and social improvement of her members.  Our Founders felt the need for an intellectual outlet and for an opportunity to share their common feelings, ideas and beliefs, thereby enriching their lives.  The ideals upon which the Adelphean Society was founded remain the same for Alpha Delta Pi members today; true friendships, unselfish service to mankind, and striving to become a well-balanced person by following the dictates stated in The Creed of Alpha Delta Pi.  The four corners of our diamond-shaped badge represent the following points: strengthening one's character and personality, watching one's attitudes toward our fellow beings, recognizing the value of high educational standards and developing faith and loyalty.
