Bulgaria's butterfly fauna includes about 217 species, some of them known from single or very old specimen records (Abadjiev, 2001, Kolev, 2003).
As Abadjiev's publication shows, there are still some questions about the distribution of the single species on the territory of the country because of the absence of scientific records from many areas, most of all in the eastern and northern part of Bulgaria.
