Chi Omega was founded at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville on April 5, 1895. Four women, Ina Mae Boles, Jobelle Holcombe, Jean Vincenheller, and Alice Simonds, decided that they wanted to create an organization through which they could enjoy friendship and fun. With the help of a member of the university, Dr. Charles Richardson, they established the tradition of the Chi Omega Sisterhood. Chi Omega has spread across the country and the sisterhood is shared by 235,000 women on 172 campuses and in more than 300 alumnae groups across the United States.

Chi Omega believes in six principles. They are Sisterhood, Friendship, Community Service, High Standards of Personel, Campus Activities, and Scholarship.
