Student Community Work

The Foundations scholarship program is unique because all of the scholarship students are required to do community service work during their October-December vacation break. This includes students as young as 12 years old. The work consists of first making a diagnostic of their community.

The types of community work depend on what grades the students are attending. For instance our students in 10th grade have given workshops on leadership, self-esteem, aids, general hygiene at home, teen relationships, drogs, health, and violence. They also have to work with primary age children to help reinforce math, spanish and native language skills. The students are reqired to give a minimum of 12 full hours plus 4 hours with children. The preparation for the workshops is not included.

Our younger students usually do interviews with people in the community. a The students in 8th grade need to do a magazine of their community.
