The intake per year being 240, the batch is divided into two groups viz. A and B. The lectures for various courses are given to the two groups separately i.e. at a time 120 students are lectured on a topic. The lectures are of 1 hour duration each and the  institute follows the trend of a minimum of 3 hours lectures on each course each week. In order to interact better with the students, each group is further subdivided into 3 sections of 40 students each. The lab work and tutorial classes are conducted on a per section basis for better benefit of the students.

Examinations

The B-Tech program extends to 8 semesters of six months duration each. In other words, the student has to pass 2 semesters each year to complete his degree in four years. Each semester consists of  a number of quizzes, one mid-semester examination and an end-semester examination. The quizzes are largely unannounced and are conducted to check the level of student's preparedness in a topic and to judge his pace. Marks obtained by the student in all these exams are considered for his grading. There is complete transparency in the conduct of the tests. The results of each quiz are announced within 3 days to help the student in fortifying his grasp of the subject and to make him aware of his shortcomings at an appropriate time.

Grading

The results of each semester are handed to the students not in the form of marks obtained, but in the form of grades viz. A,B,C,D and F. The grades are determined by a formula which takes the average student performance and finds the relative performance of each student. Only an exceptional performance by a student fetches him/her a good grade. The grades are further transformed into numerical indices, the highest value of which is 10 (A=10). The performance of a student in a semester is adjudged by the SPI or the Semester Performance Index whilst the cumulative performance is adjudged by the CPI or the Cumulative Performance Index. Its no wonder that some students maintain a CPI of 10.

General academic atmosphere

The institute encourages the progress  of a student at his own pace. The students have a healthy and fruitful interaction with the staff and are free to approach them whenever they feel in need.

The students are provided with the best possible facilities to nurture their academic hunger and give them a thrust towards technical proficiency. There is an atmosphere of competition all around with the students literally struggling to obtain good grades. Even then, the students in general are helpful to each other and there is an attempt to solve one's difficulties through mutual discussions. The institute regularly organizes various cultural and literary meets in which many students exhibit their caliber. The 97 batch recently earned encomiums by organizing a nice freshers' nite for the 98 batch students. It is this scholastic approach of our esteemed director and the V.C. thats helping our institute imprint its name in the list of the finest of the institutions.
