What makes me a professional?
 
I play an active role in my own professional development.
I research and reflect on my own practices.
I attend conferences and workshops.
I continue my education well past what is "necessary".
I keep abreast of current literature in my field.
I am an avid reader of books from my field.
I subscribe to and read the TESOL Journal and the TESOL Quarterly.
 
I am a member of and contributor to the TESOL professional community.
I attend both regional and international conferences.
I regularly participate in discussions on the TESOL listserve.
I conduct research in my field.
I am a published writer on topics of my profession.
I operate a discussion board on the topics of Second Language Acquisition theory and language education.
I run a website in which I share my own writing about Second Language Acquisition theory with other teachers.
I contribute to the development of other professionals in my field.
I have worked in a program for training other teachers.
 
I am educated, qualified, and certified.
I possess an Ed.MA in TESOL plus thirteen credits.
I will soon be receiving my Maryland State K-12 ESOL/Bilingual Education certification.
I have already passed the Praxis Test for teachers.
 
I am experienced.
I have been teaching ESL/EFL for almost ten years.
I have taught in the U.S.A., Korea, Thailand, India, Mongolia
I have taught both adults and children of all ages.
I have worked in public schools, private schools, community colleges, graduate programs, language institutes, and private homes.
I have done work as a volunteer or for near volunteer wages.
