Haitian Students Association
Howard University

September 30, 1998

Dear Friends:

On behalf of the Haitian Students Association, I thank you for your interest in and support of the H.S.A. I would like to tell you a little about us so that as you join our organization or participate in our many exciting functions throughout this year you will come to an understanding of our purpose.

The Haitian Students Association was created in 1983 in response to specific problems and issues confronting Haitian Students and the Haitian Community. The organization strives to represent the interests of the Haitian Student body at Howard University. Our mission is to promote, sustain and increase a better understanding of Haiti, its people and its culture. The challenge of this organization is to sensitize and inform the public of the truth about Haiti and to debunk the negative myths and cultural stereotypes that currently exist.

By accomplishing our mission this year, we hope to foster a lasting interchange between Haitians and the Howard University student body. The association appreciates and values its rich heritage and will dedicate its effort and time to work towards that new image and vision for Haiti.

We do not pretend to be able to achieve our goals alone, so we call upon every Haitian, Haitian-American, African-American and all people who count themselves as members of the global community to embrace our cause and commit to the achievement of our goals.

Much success to all of you in your endeavors, and may you have a wonderful and productive academic year.

Sincerely,

Marc St. Sauveur
President, Haitian Students Association
