As with most adventure sports, bodyboarding reached Portugal some years after it was invented in the early seventies by Tom Morey. I don't really know who introduced it in Portugal but it was undoubtedly by some foreign traveler, in the early eighties. It remained the previlege of a few for several years, but suddenly there was an explosion by the beginning of this decade. Today it is the most widespread water sport in Portugal.
