2000, Spring

Dolly Sods Wilderness: Steve and I were more or less just fucking around in Dolly Sods. This place is remote!! The vegetation at the top leads me to believe that this is a rough place in the winter. The forest is pretty dense along some of these trails, while the rest of the area (near the top) is low grasses and isolated patches of trees. The whole area is very rocky. Plenty of views all around. Trails that we tested (but didn't really complete) include Bear Rocks area, (bushwacked around there about 2 mi. round trip, to elev. 4091), South Prong Trail, (a mile or two in, then back because of time). Must go back. Camped at Seneca Shadows the night before. No photos.

Elevation info: Highest elevation we were at is 4091 ft. (Bear Rock area)
Weather: Sunny and warm
Maps: none.
Difficulty: Bushwacking proved to be harder than it look, despite the fact that it was all open area.
Distaince: Between 4-5 mi.
Grade: 8- (No real hike, but the area was fascinating)

2000, Summer

Seneca Rocks Hiking Trail (TR563): Up and back down. Trail is steep and switchbacks many times. View at the top is awesome (view at the bottom is awesome). A decent amount of people around, and shared space at the top with the rock climbers. Plenty of opportunities to explore at the top that I didn't try out. Scotty and Tom enhanced their trip with the help of some Hi Life! Camped at Seneca Shadows the previous night. No photos.

Elevation gain: approx. 700 ft. Max. elevation: approx. 2400 ft.
Weather: Pleasant
Maps: MNF Hiking Guide
Difficulty: Short, but strenuos (trail is steep)
Distance: 2.6 mi. round trip
Grade: 8
