ACC Weekly Honors
GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) -- Three hurlers shared pitcher-of-the-week honors in the Atlantic Coast Conference, while North Carolina's Chris LaMarsh received the conference player-of-the-week award.

LaMarsh, a junior designated hitter from Wilmington, batted .440 with 11 hits - five of them home runs - and 20 RBIs as the Tar Heels went 5-1 last week. LaMarsh hit four of the home runs and generated 13 RBIs in two games against Campbell.

The pitcher award went Monday to North Carolina's Kyle Snyder, Clemson's Ryan Mottl and Nick Stocks of Florida State.

Snyder, a sophomore from Sarasota, Fla., threw a five-hitter in a 4-0 complete-game shutout Friday over rival North Carolina State. Mottl, a sophomore from Florissant, Mo., gave up only four hits and pitched 8 1/3 innings in a 2-1 Tiger victory over Florida State.

The freshman Stocks, from Tampa, Fla., struck out 16 batters and allowed one earned run in two victories, including a 7-2 FSU win over Clemson.

Brian Roberts Sets UNC Theft Record
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -- North Carolina shortstop Brian Roberts broke the school record for stolen bases with his 99th theft in less than two seasons.

Roberts singled in the seventh inning in the April 28th game against North Carolina-Wilmington. He then stole second to eclipse Chad Holbrook's mark of 98 stolen bases and increase his Atlantic Coast Conference season record to 52.

Roberts gets UNC job
By BILL WOODWARD -- The Raleigh News & Observer

Mike Roberts is not leaving North Carolina after all. He's just moving to a new office. Roberts -- who announced last year that he was stepping down as head baseball coach after this season, his 21st at UNC -- has accepted a new position at the school, athletics director Dick Baddour said on Sunday. "It's a position in which he will be working with [senior associate athletics director for facilities] Jeff Elliott on our new facilities," Baddour said in a telephone interview. "I think Mike has tremendous organizational ability and attention to detail, and that is what this position needs." Roberts, 48, has won 765 games at UNC. But he said last August that he was stepping down for personal reasons after his worst season at Carolina -- 29-31 overall and a 6-18, eighth-place finish in the ACC. "My loyalty is to UNC," Roberts said on Sunday at Duke, where the Heels swept the Blue Devils. "I am very appreciative of this opportunity.'' Baddour said that Roberts' salary would remain the same in the new position. The coach had a base salary of $52,663 in 1996.
