This and the following year are easily the most informative fact books for the historian the Argos ever put out, team results have been pushed back to the beginning (1873), annual scoring leaders go back to 1883, and most other individual statistical leaders pushed back to 1945, even though these weren't kept "officially" until 1954 (which I believe marks the arrival of Gord Walker as league statistician). A section of 100-yard rushing games pushes back to 1900. This research was conducted by Robert Sproule, of Newmarket, Ontario. (The pre-1954 stats are properly unofficial, as there were no uniform statistical rules prior to that date, but nonetheless interesting pieces of information.)

A sad shadow of the 1981 edition, the new ownership (Carling) tore the guts out of the content; effectively a regression to the early-70s format, with player biographies crammed two-to-a-page (even though Miss Argonaut got a whole page to herself), and year-by-year statistical leaders removed outright. The team history--in its last year of inclusion--has been completely revised for the early years, and this version is far more accurate than any of the previous editions, or the 1989 media guide history, for the 1873-1883 era.

Rather disorganised and poorly-printed, the annalistic history of the team by Dick Beddoes is somewhat useful, and some wonderful pictures have been printed along with it that are of some interest. Unfortunately, Beddoes based his history on the less accurate pre-1982 summary in the media guides, and thus made a few mistakes that he should not have made.
