67.63 91 2007 59.33 68 2002 60.00 61 2002COMMENTS The top male thrower that has marks recorded in all 5 weight pentathlon events is Soren Tallhem of Sweden, who competed for BYU in the 1980s. More recently, Scott Russell (Can) and Scott Warren (US) were outstanding versatile throwers. John Brenner scored 5223 points (IAAF tables) in a weight pentathlon in early 80s: 20.96, 20.14, 57.66, 64.04, 67.52(~677). This is the highest scoring weight pentathlon that I am aware of. General observations: The Scandinavians, and especially the Finnish, score well in combo lists that include the javelin because everybody wants to do javelin as a child since it is the Finnish national sport. They also don't have baseball or football which drain anyone from javelin that shows an early disposition for throwing. Also, although the US is not strong in hammer due to their lack of youth development, ironically, we rank high in combos involving the hammer because we are always converting shot-disc throwers into hammer throwers in college. Refer to my Weight Pentathlon file for more.
