`99 Hindsight Viking Draft

Just for fun, I decided to look back at previous drafts, and wondered what might of
happened if the Vikes could go back in time knowing what they know now. What would
the draft have looked like with the power of hindsight. In this first of three installments, I
will cover the `99 draft, with `98 and `97 to come in a few days. Keep in mind: All picks
must be feasible; they have to be players who were available when the Vikes pick was
on the clock for that particular round. No trades are allowed.

`99 Actual
1)    Daunte Culpepper             QB
1b)  Dimetrius Underwood        DE
2)    Jimmy Kleinsasser             TE
4)    Kenny Wright                     CB
4b)  Jay Humphrey                    OL
5)    Chris Jones                         LB
6)    Talance Sawyer                  DE
6b)  Antico Dalton                      LB
7)    Noel Scarlett                       DT

`99 Hindsight

1)    Jevon Kearse (Tenn) DE    Back to back freaks and ROY.
1b)  Al Wilson (Den) LB    Tough, hardnosed LB to challenge Wong
2)    Mike McKenzie (GB) CB      Best CB available at this point
4)    Kenny Wright (Min) CB      Not a typo. I think he did well considering
he was thrown to the wolves after being converted from safety and had
no pass rush and poor free safety play from OT
4b)  Orlandis Gary (Den) RB     Of course he is better than Wright, but he
is available here and Wright is not. Could be insurance if Robert bolts
        after 2000.
  5)   Talance Sawyer(Min) DE      Nobody after our pick in the fifth round stood
out; so I might as well go with the guy who looked pretty good in the preseason.
Why he didnt get to play in the regular season still boggles my mind.
  6)   Jeff Kelly(Atl) LB       Yet more toughness and depth at LB and on
         special teams.
6b)    Kris Brown (Pitt) Excelled as a rookie. Would save money over Gary.
   7)   Darnell Mcdonald (TB) Big receiver could be brought along slowly.
