Our Top 5 and Bottom 5 "It's a Knockout" teams
These ratings are based on how much we liked the teams and also their ability at IAK. More Top 5 teams can be found in the visitors' area.
Andrew's Top 5
- Nareen (Vic) -- Fantastic -- a juggernaut.
- Childers (Qld) -- Went well for first three meets.
- Melbourne City (Vic) -- Led from the front by tanks.
- Stirling (SA) -- Annoys Victorian viewers but managed to pull off an incredible score of 25 at one meet.
- Vermont (Vic) -- Performed ok but had plenty of character.
Honourable mentions: Portland (Vic), Newcastle (NSW).
Andrew's Bottom 5
- Frankston (Vic) -- Without a doubt the worst ever team -- only four
points from four meets -- "I just dunno Billy" -- F.Gleeson, "I want the Blue guy to win!" -- R. May (RIP).
- Padthaway (SA) -- no offence but they were dodge.
- Woodville (SA) -- only six points from four meets, including zero from the fourth.
- Rockhampton (Qld) -- Pillowfight. Enough said.
- Orange (NSW) -- Scoring only one point in their second game puts them up with the best.
Tommy's Top 5
-
Nareen (Vic) -- Constantly destroyed all opposition, unbeaten throughout series.
- Melbourne City (Vic) -- Good teamwork and huge strength was represented with an average of just under 20 points per meet.
- Childers (Qld) -- The best thing to come out of Queensland.
- Vermont (Vic) -- Excellent characters made up for lack of actual talent and ability.
- Newcastle (NSW) -- Somewhat phoney compared to above teams but did their best and more.
Often unintelligible.
Honourable mentions: Portland (Vic) -- Victorian champs, Burra (SA) --
powered by star Borgas.
Tommy's Bottom 5
-
Frankston (Vic) -- Why did you play your joker in "Ski Slalom", and finish a hopeless LAST!?
-
Frankston (Vic) -- That's not a one-off either -- your team did it every single time. You have disgraced your suburb, you
-
Frankston (Vic) -- have disgraced your state. I can't believe that Victoria, the greatest state in the world, was represented
-
Frankston (Vic) -- by a pack of has-beens who spent their time driving trucks. Can't you be a roofing contractor and
-
Frankston (Vic) -- have a beard like everyone else!? As for you, and you know who you are...
Honourable Mentions: Frankston (Vic) -- please explain your abysmal performance against Steve Borgas
in "Space Race". Can't you even get one ring????? I feel that every second I have seen Frankston "compete" I have wasted a second of my
life. Thanks a lot. P.S. It's nothing personal....
Our Dreamteam
(3 men, 3 women + 1 man & 1 woman emergency)
- Michael Naughton (c) [Melbourne City] (Vic)
-
Steve Borgas (vc) [Burra/Gawler] (SA)
-
Michael Jordan [Hawkesbury] (NSW)
- Di Dungey [Vermont] (Vic)
- Angela Pierlot [Nareen] (Vic)
- Kathy van Veldhuisen [Portland] (Vic)
- David Rankin (emerg) [Newcastle] (NSW)
- Sue Nagel (emerg) [Melbourne City] (Vic)
"You just can't beat the Naughton-Borgas-Jordan combination" -- Andrew Gray 5/12/1997
Our Nightmare Team
(3 men, 3 women + 1 man & 1 woman emergency)
- Frank "ston" Gleeson (c) [Frankston] (Vic)
- Mick Ryan (vc) [Frankston] (Vic)
- Shane Wilson [Frankston] (Vic)
- Lesley Ruchmer [Frankston] (Vic)
- Kelly Gleeson [Frankston] (Vic)
- Cathy Weatherall [Rockhampton] (Qld)
- Derek "Mr. Accident" van Veldhuisen (emerg) [Portland] (Vic)
- Combat (emerg) [Dural] (NSW)
It was a unanimous decision that the core of the team consisted of basically Frankston, and Cathy Weatherall of Rockhampton. Cathy clearly demonstrated her worthiness for this position with her exploits in the event 'pillowfight'. The emergencies were more difficult to decide upon, since the allocation of team positions were less clear-cut. Combat the dog was privileged to receive a guernsey amongst this distinguished group.
Please feel free to send us your own Top 5 and Bottom 5 teams -- we may put them up!
