THE PHILOSOPHY OF SACAC BASKETBALL

The purpose of SACAC sports is to provide opportunities for our children to participate in team sports with an emphasis on learning basic skills, being part of a team, good sportsmanship, and most importantly to have FUN.  These guidelines are intended to help coaches and parents to ensure that we maintain this philosophy.

Emphasis is on participation, not on winning.  The kids learn this from the attitude and actions of the adults involved and it is important that all be aware of the impact of the actions!

There should be equal playing time for all participants.  All players pay the same fees and should reasonably expect to have the same level of participation.

No official standings are maintained during the season.  Actual season’s results are only considered for purposes of seeding in the event of a tournament.  This is at the discretion of the individual league commissioners.

All trophies are the same.  (No champion/loser).

In addition to teaching basic skills, coaches are responsible to teach good sportsmanship, knowledge and compliance of the rules, and respect for the officials and the opposing team.

Camaraderie is the single most important key to kids having a fun season.  All parents and coaches should help to encourage a positive relationship between all players.

Coaches should regularly emphasize the importance of good sportsmanship and teamwork.
