Tips for Collecting Autographs

There are a couple of ways that you can obtain your favorite sport stars or celebrity. I will try to tell all the ways and which one is right for you.

My favorite way, and most people's, is through the mail. Its the easiest and very cheap. All you need is a couple of stamps, two different size enevelopes, a card or something for them to sign, and an address. First, you go and buy a pack of stamps. You need these the most. Next, buy some 8 X 10, 9 X 11, business size, and regular size. Then find what you want the star to sign. I recommend a card, 3 X 5 index card, or any picture smaller them 9 X 11. These are the easiest for them to sign. Also, don't send any more then three items, or it looks like you are going to sell their autograph. Now you write your letter, which saids stuff like "I'm your biggest fan", or "I will treasure your autograph forever." Now you put your s.a.s.e. (self-addressed stamped enevelope) and the rest of your items in the biggest enevelope, and mail it. It can take anywhere from a week to a few years. It depends on how much fan mail that star gets.

Another good way of getting autographs, is getting to the field a little early and try getting their autograph before a game. This is a good way because it proves its a real autograph, unlike doing it through the mail. The bad par of it is that some players don't sign at the field, and that you have to fight with a mob of fans trying to do the samething you're doing. It's tough to do, but it can give you a big reward, a player's John Hancock.

The next way of getting an autograph, is buying a ticket and getting in-line at a card show. This can be expensive, but you get to really talk with the player, and tell him where you want his signture and in what can of pen. I only done this once, and it was great. I met Brooks Robinson and Jim Palmer, and I really enjoyed it.

These are only a few ways of getting autographs. You can buy them from a dealer, trade with a friend, or bid in an auction. All you have to have is a little time, and you'll be on your way to a great autograph collection.
