Dennis Rodman's Domain - Career Summary

Dennis Rodman is, by far, the greatest Rebounder in the NBA. He did not play basketball in high school. He was only 5'11" untill he turned 19, when he grew 9 inches to 6'8".

Rodman went to Cooke County junior college, then to South East Oklahoma State University, where he was an NAIA all-american for three years in a row. He averaged more than 25 points and 15 rebounds in his career. He led the NAIA in rebounding 2 times. He took his team to the NAIA championship his junior year.

His first team in the NBA was the Detroit Pistons. He was drafted by Detroit in '86. He was picked in the second round. He was the 27th player taken that year.

His rookie year Rodman played 77 of 82 games and only averaged 15 minutes a game.

In 1988-89 Rodman won his first championship, led the NBA in field-goal percentage with .595 and was named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team.

In 1989-90 Rodman won his second championship, was named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team for the second time, won his first Defensive Player of the Year award and played in his first All-Star game.

In 1990-91 Rodman was named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team for a third time and won his second Defensive Player of the Year award.

In 1991-92 Rodman led the league in rebounding with 18.7 boards a game, the highest average in the NBA in 20 years. March 4, 1992, Rodman set the Pistons single-game rebounding record of 34 rebounds, against the Indiana Pacers. The record he broke was set by Bob Lanier 20 years before. He was also named to the All-NBA Third Team, to the NBA All-Defensive First Team for a forth time, and was in the NBA All-Star game.

In 1992-93 Rodman led the league in rebounding a second time with 18.3 boards a game. Before Rodman no forward had ever won the NBA rebounding title twice in a row. He also was named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team for a fifth time.

October 1, 1993 the Detroit Pistons traded Rodman to the San Antonio Spurs for Sean Elliott.

In 1993-94 Rodman won his third consecutive rebounding title with 17.3 boards a game and was named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team.

In 1994-95 Rodman is the NBA Rebounding Champion for the forth consecutive season with 16.8 boards a game and for the sixth time he is named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team.

October 2, 1995 the San Antonio Spurs traded Rodman to the Chicago Bulls for Will Perdue.

In 1995-96 Rodman is the NBA Rebounding Champion for the fifth season with 14.9 boards a game, named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team for the seventh time and wins his third NBA Championship. He got his first triple-double, with 10 points, 21 rebounds and 10 assists on January 16, 1996 against Philadelphia.

In 1996-97 Rodman is the first player to lead the NBA in rebounding six consecutive years. He had 16.1 boards a game. He won another Championship with Chicago, making it his fourth. On January 14, 1997 Rodman grabbed his 10,000 rebound of his career against the Washington Bullets.

In 1997-98 Rodman wins the NBA Rebounding Title for a record seventh consecutive time with 15.0 boards a game and wins his fifth NBA Championship. Wilt Chamberlain is the only player to win more rebounding titles with 11.

On February 23, 1999 Rodman is signed as a free agent with the L.A. Lakers. He played in 23 games, started 11 and got 11.2 boards a game. He was waived by the Lakers on April 15, 1999. He was with the Lakers for 51 days.
