The base of the Dragons Lair study is all the aspects of American Nippon Kempo( Uke Waza, Atemi Waza, Nage Waza, Ukemi Waza, Uke Kaeshi Waza, Kansetsu-Gyakutori Waza, Ashi Barai Waza and Jiei Waza) with a few major additions.
To enhance our martial arts training, we also practice using techniques (waza) from other martial arts.   Other arts like
Kali, Chin Na, Wing Chun, Judo and Karate are used to build a stronger and improved foundation of American Nippon Kempo.   We are committed to the goal of continued learning, improvement, and advancement our skills to a step beyond what one art can provide on an average basis.  We accomplish this goal by furthering our knowledge, never allowing room for stagnation.
We have found that weapons training enhances our reflexes for speed, footwork and body torquing.   Weapons training is emphasized through the training of Kali.  The art of Kali opens our knowledge to the use of the single escrima stick, knife, double stick (siniwali) and sword and dagger (espada y daga).
        Kali drills such as
Largo Mano (long range) and Sumbrada (mid-range) are practiced.  Disarms are practiced with drills of stick against stick and stick against empty hands.  Knife flow patterns, stick flow patterns, carrenza and numerada techniques are executed to build various improvements in execution of techniques, speed, power, ability, agility and application of knowledge.
Since our style of kempo, at times,  brings forth  in-close and ground combat situations,  we practice techniques from
Judo, Wing Chun and Kali hand trapping and Chin Na joint locking.  Some Wing Chun trapping techniques are pak sao (pushing hand),  lop sao (pulling hand), jut sao (jerking hand), bong sao (rotating elbow), jao sao (rotating wrist), etc.     Hand drills from Kali are used to improve sensitivity and speed (Higot Hubad)Chin (lock) Na (grasp or seize) introduce us to strong locking techniques.  Chin Na techniques are used to perform locks on wrists, elbows, shoulders, ankles and knees.   Lock flow patterns are practiced to further develop sensitivity, accuracy and effective execution in locking techniques consisting of many various situations.
