The Oregon Trail Speedway is a 1/4 mile asphalt track which operated from 1957-1987 and again from 1992 to the present. The promoter is Dallas Whiting who was very hospitable to me during my visit to the track.

The grandstands were simple. The sandy ground below the seating made everything dirty real quick. Admission was only $5, programs were 75 cents and canned soda was 50 cents. These prices were from a long gone era.

The driver's meeting is taking place here. Note car #3 is in the cruiser class. The cruiser class has two people in the car. The driver has control of the steering and gas. The passenger operates the brakes.

The banking is slight on this oval. The infield is sandy and whenever a car would spin into the infield they would kick sand onto the track. This caused delays as track workers had to continually sweep the track clean.

This is the street stock trophy dash getting lined up for the first event of the night. Car #15, sponsored by the speedway itself, was the winner.

The is the first heat in the street stock division. This was also opening night for the track. Their fields were a little small across their four classes but the racing was competitive.

The people is Nebraska were very friendly. There are very few places where you can order your breakfast over the telephone from your table and speak directly to the cook!
