Players - Please be sure to return your uniform to
your coach so they can be used again for the Fall 2002

Fall Soccer Underway!: The Fall 2002
Soccer season got underway last weekend on a very hot weekend
for soccer with temperatures in the low 90's on both Saturday
and Sunday. We hope everyone remembered to drink plenty
of fluids and to monitor for signs of heat related
illnesses. Click on the image below for an excellent
summary of heat related illnesses provided by the American Red
Cross.
Heat
Related Issues
It
will continue to be very warm this week until Wed when
temperatures are forecasted to moderate to the low 80's. The early forecast for
this weekend calls for
temperatures in the high 70's and low 80's with a chance of
thunderstorms...

Blast-Off Scrimmage: Twenty-seven teams and
close to 500 recreational soccer players from Terrace Park,
Fairfax, and Mariemont participated in the second annual
Mariemont Recreation Association Soccer Blast-Off preseason
scrimmage on Saturday, August 25th. This years event was
played on the new synthetic field at Mariemont High School
Kusel Stadium and the most often heard response of the players
to the new field was "this is cool".
The proceeds for the event, cash and
non-perishable food items
were donated to the Madisonville Emergency Assistance Food
Bank. Thanks to everyone who participated and who
volunteered their time to make this event possible.
Special thanks to Jeff Watterson of Mariemont High School for
his help, the Fine Arts Association for running the
Concessions, Rec Coaches from Fairfax, Mariemont, and Terrace
Park for their cooperation, Dan Telgkamp, Paula
Albrecht, Mark
Overley, "the Parking Divas", Village of Mariemont
Maintenance Dept. and to Bill Flynn, and the members of the Mariemont Rec Association for their hard work at the
scrimmage. Mariemont Rec Association would also
like to express our sincere gratitude to White Design and
Production for their work on the Soccer Blast-off logo and the
"way cool" T-Shirts.
OSYSA Soccer
Blast-Off Clinic: The 2002 Mariemont
Recreation Association Soccer Blast-off achieved a perfect
lift-off with the OSYSA Soccer Clinic run by John Basalyga,
coach of the Turpin Boys Varsity and the members of his
team. Over 120 boys and girls from Terrace Park,
Fairfax, and Mariemont participated and from all accounts, had
a tremendous amount of fun. Click here
to see more pictures!

Coach John
Basalyga gathers all of the players at mid-field at
end of the clinic. |
Players
worked on a variety of soccer skills as they moved
from station to station around the new field. |

The Mariemont Rec Association would like to
thank Jim Martella of the Ohio South Youth Soccer Association,
Coach Basalyga and his Turpin High School team for putting on
this Clinic. Fantastic job guys!
