Santos segue na vice-liderança do Brasileiro
(25/09) Com uma campanha surpreendente, baseada num futebol competitivo e com sorte, bem ao estilo do técnico Leão, o Santos mantém a vice-liderança entre os 24 clubes do Campeonato Brasileiro. Com resultados surpreendentes, como as vitórias sobre o Cruzaeiro no Mineirão, o São Paulo no Morumbi e o Vitória no Barradão, o time tem ótimo desempenho fora de casa. Na Vila Belmiro, apesar de alguns tropeços, a goleada de 4 X 1 contra o Flamengo trouxe de volta a magia do Caldeirão.
Os destaques do time tem sido o goleiro Zetti, o grande zagueiro Argel, o lateral Ânderson e o atacante Viola, artilheiro do campeonato.
Santos na Final da Conmebol !!!
O Santos vai voltar a decidir um torneio a nível sul-americano depois de décadas. Ao golear o Sampaio Correia por 5 X 1 no Maranhão (jogo de ida na Vila: 0X0) o time conquistou o direito de enfrentar o Rosário Central da Argentina na decisão. as partidas serão nos dias 7 (Vila) e 21 (Rosário). Para chegar à final, além do sampaio o Santos eliminou o Once Caldas da Colômbia e o LDU do Equador.

Torneio Rio-São Paulo: O Santos ficou em quarto-lugar, sendo eliminado nas semifinais pelo Botafogo, nos pênaltis.
Copa do Brasil: Com excelente campanha, o Santos terminou em terceiro lugar, eliminado pelo campeão Palmeiras no critério "gols fora de casa", depois de 2 empates.

SANTOS CAMPEÃO !!!!!!
(24/01)Acabou a Fila! O Santos calou 80 mil flamenguistas no Maracanã, e garantiu o titulo do Rio
São Paulo 97 com um empate em 2 X 2. Foi um jogo dificil e que testou o coração de todos os
santistas.
Luxemburgo novamente merece o crédito. Ele armou o time muito bem, e não foi dificl segurar a
pressão no primeiro tempo. Além de tudo, o time era perigoso nos contra-ataques.
Aos 34 minutos Anderson bateu falta no canto esquerdo e Zé Carlos falhou: Santos 1 X 0. Parecia
que o titulo seria facil. O Flamengo reagiu rapidamente, porpem, aproveitando o descontrole
emocional dos peixeiros. Sávio sofreu penalti e Romário converteu. o artilheiro do torneio marcou de
novo aos 46 do primeiro tempo, virando o placar.
A torcida levou o Flamengo no segundo tempo, quando a partida ficou aberta. O Santos perdeu
boas chances, principalmente numa cabeçada de Macedo. Luxemburgo trocou os laterais por
meias, Baiano e Juari. Deu certo, Juari aproveitou um rebote e meteu uma bomba no ângulo,
empatando o jogo.
Daí pra frente o Flamengo se perdeu. Coube ao Santos segurar e perder ainda outra oportunidade,
com Alessandro. Aos 48, Oscar de godoy apitou. Santos Campeão!!!
A comemoração teve beijo em Juari, taça, volta olímpica e agradecimento à brava torcida que saiu
de São Paulo. Ale´m de acabar com afila, o Santos ganhou um titulo no Maracna depois de 34
anos (Mundial contra o Milan).

Santos wins Rio-Sao Paulo !!
(Jan) Santos ended up with 12 years without an important title. The team won 1997 Rio-São
paulo tournament, after a dramatic 2 X 2 draw against Flamengo, at Maracanã.
Santos had won the first leg in São paulo, by 2 X 1. 80.000 Flamengo fans went to maracanã
waiting for the victory that would take the championship to Rio. Santos scored first, with right back
Anderson in a Free Kick. The striker of the tournament, Romario, though, scored twice yet in the
first time. It seemed Flamengo would take it...
On the second half Santos put a lot of pressure, and the game became exciting. With 8 minutes to
go, reserve Juari got a powerful shot, tieing the game 2 X 2. After that santos was calm enough to
guarantee the title, 12 years after the Paulista League Title.
Rio São paulo was played by the 8 best teams in Brazil: Palmeiras, Santos, Corinthians, São paulo
(from SP) and Flamengo, Fluminense, Botafogo and vasco (from Rio). It was played every year
during the sixties, becoming one of the most famous tournaments of the season. After a 20 years
"break", the tournament was played again 2 years ago. This time it was played in the pre-season.
Santos eliminated Vasco, Palmeiras and Flamengo to win the Cup. Now Santos isalong with
palmeiras the team who has most won the Rio-São paulo (5 times)
Paulista League
Santos get an adequate Third Place
(June 5th) Santos couldn't win the Paulista League. The team finished in the Third Place, beating
Palmeiras in the last game, 4 X 0. The two defeats for Corinthians and São Paulo in the final round
(3 X 4 and 0 X 1) were decisive. Santos played better both times, but didn't have the winning spirit
(and luck...) to be a champion. This year's final standing was the best for Santos in 5 years. The
team has played a total of 26 games, and accomplished 14 victories, 7 draws and 5 defeats.
The best players throughout the tournament were goalkeeper Zetti (Santos was the best defense of
all), back Ronaldão, midfielder Marcos Assunção and striker Muller, who arrived to the team only in
the third round of the competition, adding skill and speed to the attack. Macedo was the top scorer,
though, with 7 goals. Coach Wanderley Luxemburgo was elected the best in the tournament.
The Brazilian National League
The main problem here was winning away. Playing outside Vila Belmiro, Santos got only one victory in 18 games. But overall the team got an average 6th place, being runner-up in the group that sent Palmeiras to the final. Best player was Muller, who saved the team inumerous times, with his classy touch on the ball.
