Day Six. 6th September 1997

As there was no competition this morning, we stayed in and watched Princess Diana's funeral 'live' on telly. Good golly it was moving!

Some felt KHORKINA was way overscored, both in AA and in today's UB.

Bumped into Mrs K and the girls again in the afternoon. The Uzbek gang has come to watch the EF. Little Anastasya was all flaming bright and yellow in her getup while the other girls were in their black Lausanne tees. More group photos and of course, Mrs K got us into the photo op as well. We shared a copy of The Guardian which was full of Diana photos but not a shred of gym news. There was cricket, rowing, tennis, but no gymnastics. Typical.

Not much to report with regards the meet. My notes seem to be taken up with all sorts of gym gossip which cannot be printed here. Sorry!

Chloe was asked to translate a bit of French spoken by Eric POUJADE taped during the post-meet press conference. He was unhappy with the tie-breaking formula cooked up using the earlier scores. Three had tied for PH at 9.700 (BELENKI, POUJADE and PAE Gil Su) but they were broken into gold, silver and bronze. Many felt strongly that the medallists should be tied if the scores posted show it to be so.
