Day Seven. 7th September 1997

KUI Yuanyuan should have gotten 1st on the beam. Definitely higher than KHORKINA. But they gave it to GOGEAN (who, to quote a friend, "Did jack all!") and silver went to KHORKINA. You should have heard the boos that rocked the stadium when KUI's scores were posted. Her routine was breathlessly full of risks and totally wowing. Yet, because of a slight stumble in landing...... No fair!

And what's with KHORKINA's FX? How could she tie with Gogean?

Yelena PISKUN who has not had a good meet at all, played with her Gameboy all through the last day, stabbing the buttons with a vengeance.

The final thrill of the meet: I gave the rest of Michelle's little koalas to Mrs K while standing under the trees (our usual gathering place) and Mrs K took out from her bag two little figurines and said "Uzbek Men". She hugged us and then the Uzbeks were gone, with us waving from the pavement.
