Above is a picture of Leon Statton taken at the White Cloud Airport on our “Around Lake Michigan” trip. The following day, July 29th, he tragically died on takeoff from Antrim County Airport in Michigan. A witness to the accident advised that Leon had made a left turn after reaching 150 ft. and never recovered before hitting the ground. Leon was the founder and the forefather of the Fox Valley Flying Club. His constant effort to keep our club and ultralights flourishing was felt by all he came in contact with. Through his generosity and love of this sport, we developed into one of the midwest’s largest and most active ultralight clubs. I could go on and on about what made Leon so well liked and admired but memories of our friendship will be the most cherished.
