Hi. My name is Jeff Corn and I am a Police Sergeant from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. From 1991 to 2000, I was involved in the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. The "Torch Run" is an annual event in which law enforcement officers from around the state run from their areas to Stevens Point to raise money for the Special Olympics. Well, each officer doesn't actually run the whole distance! In some cases, the distance is split up into 4-mile legs and each leg is assigned to an officer. Throughout the day of the Torch Run, there are parades through some of the cities along the route. These parades consist of a group of runners running through the cities... with SEVERAL police squad cars from around the state (with lightbars a-flashin' and a siren or two goin' off here or there) lined up and going through the towns with the runners. Along with all the squad cars, there are several other support vehicles involved in the parades, such as ambulances, security services, and other Special Olympics supporters in their personal cars and RVs. Oh, and McGruff ALWAYS makes it to support Special Olympics!!! When we arrive in Stevens Point, a lot of Wisconsin ground has been covered by the runners! That evening there is an exciting kick-off for the Special Olympics-Wisconsin Summer Games!
