The Tigers Club was formed four years ago when some disgruntled players from the Dark Angels Club (Now folded) decided to start up their own team. At the time though this decision was made mid season and so the Club was not able to start until the beggining of the next season in 1993.
By the time the season started most of the disgruntled players had either returned to the Dark Angels or moved interstate, so the Club started with about 10 young rookies and 4 experienced players.
The first season for the Tigers was a real learning experience for everyone. the team were only able to beat the Dark Angels, before this club folded mid season. The rest of the season was spent trying to be competitive with the other two more experienced teams the Cyclones and the Stingers (now folded).
Through the next few seasons the Club and Players developed with experience and as our numbers increased and the original group of Tigers gained more experience the Team became more competitive. Over this period the Clubs has been able to mold together probably the strongest defense in the League, with many of the Clubs defensive players gaining representative honours and excelling on this level. However the Club's real weakness has been its offensive play which has never been able to match the level of intensity shown by the defense.
The Clubs strengths and weakness were demonstrated in the 1996 Preliminary Final when the Tigers were beaten by the Razorbacks on a last minute play. Throughout the day the defense had been able to hold the more flambouyant Razorback offense, however the Tiger offense was not able to fully capitalise on this with points on the board, and so lost the game by two TD's to 1. This game was the closest the team has ever got to making the Grand Final.
With a new season about to start the Club hopes to change this fact and is working hard on offense in the build up to the season Kickoff. With this season we hope to bring you results and some stories as the season progresses.
