2008 Titans

   4/28/08 - St Alberts
The Varsity contest ended up 2-1 in a battle between the CB schools.  There is much history between the two squads.  Both teams played hard and it was a very physical match.  Whenever two city teams collide, two things that are known. 1. It is a slugfest and going to end up a 1 goal win by the squad that plays the entire 80 minutes.  2. The hungriest team with want and desire to win is going to do so.  We did not play 80 minutes of want to soccer, maybe 20 minutes of want to soccer.  The Varsity team is struggling to find camaraderie between ourselves and constant play.  Our Lack of communication and leadership on the field is really hurting this team right now.  When this team communicates with one another, we play possession.  When we do not communicate we can’t play possession and the chips don’t fall on our table.  You got to want to help one another out in between the lines.  You got to want to compete!!!!. Take ownership when things aren’t going right like not winning 50/50’s and NOT COMMUNICATING.  Don’t point fingers at teammates not playing well, instead, point towards yourself and ask , “How can I make things better for this team to be successful.”   We did not communicate well and therefore were unable to play possession.  We will work to improve upon this when we play Atlantic at City field tonight in a Varsity only contest starting at 4 PM   Gentlemen, if you will make a commitment to communicate, help each other out by communicating, (time, turn, carry, man on, etc) , and take ownership and responsibility when the momentum is not going our way.  We will be able to play possession and fluent soccer as a team.  We need to want to compete and take ownership of competitiveness.  If we play possession tonight, we will be victorious.

JV started off the night playing well.  Winning the battle in the middle and quite frankly dominating play.  Soccer is a very unforgiving game. You can dominate play all day, however, if you do not take advantage of your opportunities, you get nothing on the board for your efforts.  This can be very detrimental to momentum and attitude.  JV seemed to have lost that momentum after failing to tally a score on the board.  The effort from the squad was fantastic and as a coach I was pleased with the effort, just not the end result.  Both Goalkeepers Mark and Sam played well.  Darrien Scott did an excellent job of managing the defense and played hard.  The contest ended up in a draw in typical stand em up, drag em out city fashion.  Continue your competitive nature, skill improvement and attitude gents, you will get there!!!
