2007 Titans

  5/15/07 - Thomas Jefferson
What a game, what a night.  Senior night, last home game of the season, and city Championship on the line.  Let's start tonight by recognizing our seniors who played their last home game of the season, of their high school career, and the goal to have an undefeated season at home.  2007 Seniors - David Hamilton, Brandon Duffy, Brett Epperson, Cory Jasek, Riley Landolt, Adam Larkin, Chris Navarrete, & Evan Summy.  Thank you gentlemen for what you have done for the Titan program the last 4 years while you were here.  I will have more in the honor of our seniors at the end of the season.

The night starts off with a hit as Brett Epperson hammers the National Anthem, we are 2 - 0 when Brett sings the National Anthem to start the game.  Great job Brett.  This game was a battle as expected right down to the final second.  Anytime you are playing a city game you know it will be a fun one to watch.  We get the wind at our back to start the game and are looking to hopefully score a couple of goals before the half.  At the 22:50 mark we start the scoring as Kyle Larkin gets behind the defense and hit it on goal, it bounces off the keeper and Tommy Vonmende is right there to put it right back on goal and scores.  We continue to attack the rest of the half but go into the half 1-0.  We tell them at the half that 1 goal will not be enough.  We need to continue to talk, continue to control the flow, and make smart passes.  The smart pass comes with talking.  Our talking was a lot better then the weekend, it just makes the game a whole lot easier.  We play a better second half, they never really are able to put any kind of attack on goal together when you talk.  We have several chances to put it away and each time come up short.  At the 3:35 mark, Adam Larkin finds himself one on one with the keeper and a chance to score the game breaker, he hits it to hard and goes wide.  We hang on the rest of the game and with the win get to lay our claim to city champs.  Our goal tonight was the first goal in 2 years that TJ gave up to a city team, we broke their streak.  Also the shut out tonight was Riley Landolts fifth shutout of the season and his seventeenth of his 4 year career.  He now owns the school career shut out record that was fifteen set by Joe Clanton from 1998 to 2001.  We are extremely proud of everyone tonight and proud of the way they played.  Cory Jasek played through back pain, Kyle Larkin was in every play and played with a sore hamstring.  Brett Epperson was everywhere, and the defense of Evan Summy, Brandon Duffy, Ryan Cook, and Chris Navarrete shut down anything that came close.  We started and ended the game with the seniors on the field.  We left everything we had on the field tonight.  We now move to the playoffs.  We will travel to Neola to play Tri-Center on Thursday at 5pm.  Every game here on out is key, win and go on, lose and your done.  Join us Thursday as we travel to Neola.

JV finished their season on top tonight with a 1-0 win and the JV City Championship.  The win puts us on top of 500 and is a good finish at 4-3-2 considering at one time we were 2-2-2.  Our lone goal in the game came off of a corner kick by Roberto Gaytan.  Roberto sends the ball in and it is right on as Jaymison Coffelt it there to put the ball in the goal.  From there we manage to get everyone into the game, we hang on to log the win.  Defensively Gabor Fieszl, Darian Scott, Colin Duffy, & Scott Nelson played a great game.  Together they shut down several attempts that could have easily tied and or even won the game for TJ.  Chris Wenck played solid again tonight as he has all year, he has been that silent player that is not scoring a lot but is making a difference on the field and in the game.  Hunter Brugenhemke logs the shut out tonight as plays both halves of the match.  This was the last JV game of the season, it will be different at practice now with out them and some of their smiling faces and wit.  We look forward to seeing you back next year.
