Paramount is just about Pacific's version of UD MVP. It's inexpensive, you probably won't find a ton of value (although there is some), but it has the most important quality of all: being a fun break.

First of all, every pack has a copper parallel in it. These aren't going to be worth a ton, but they are still nifty to pull and really help you get through all 36 packs in the box. The inserts are relatively sparse (3 in 36 packs on average) but look sharp and are very well designed. And of course there are more limited Holo-Silver and Premiere Date Parallels to pull as well.

In addition to this basic level of value, you also have a higher goal to shoot for, which does keep you into the box. After all, when that next pack could contain a dual jersey/patch card or a stick card you're going to be interested. Paramount also offers Hall of Fame Bound cards, the regulars of which are tough pulls, but how about the parallel ... or the 1/1! There's a good deal of home-run possibilities considering the price.

And for those of you coming back down to reality and realizing you'll probably never hit the longshot odds at the jerseys or Hall of Fame Bounds, there is a middle level to aim for too: the Ice Blue Parallel and Glove Side Net Fusions are a limited but obtainable 1:73.

As far as my box goes, it wasn't too horrible. I'd like to mention the copper parallels I got though. Maybe you skipped over them the first time, I certainly can't blame you, but go look at them again. Superstar after superstar after superstar. The set is 252 cards big, and as my other parallels show, it's easy to hit a dud. But I reeled off nineteen superstar hobby players. Maybe one or two, sure the odds favor that, but nineteen?! That was just unbelieveable, true they probably aren't very high in value, but it sure was fun reeling off the superstars pack after pack.

The rest of the break was kinda sub-par, the parallels were hideious. I hit the 1:73 odds for the Ice Blue only to find Ken Wregget greeting me. Yay ... or something. Balmochnykh's is numbered 74/74, so that is semi-kinda-interesting. Todd Warriner and Clarke Wilm ... not quite happening there. Mattias Ohlund is OK, although kinda dead in the hobby. Only Ron Francis was able to provide some saving grace to the parallels, but even he couldn't outweigh 4 sub-par parallels.

The inserts were also kinda dull. I did hit the 1:73 Net Side Fusions with Tommy Salo (what, the Roy Net Side Fusions books at $60? Sigh ...) and that card is very cool. The Hasek Epic Scope is nifty, but Connolly and Gomez are both on hobby life support. Still, the cards are extremely well designed and do look sharp.

I bought this box to finish off the set I had lying around, those 172 cards should just about do it. And really, that alone is worth the box price. But on the way I got some great copper parallels, some ... umm ... "interesting" more limited parallels, some good looking inserts, but most importantly a fun time breaking it. Maybe you don't want to buy a case, but if you're looking for some fun and cheap pack busting, it's hard to beat Paramount.
