Breakdown

Packs per Box: 24
Cards per Pack: 8
Cards per Box: 192
Base Set Completion: 76.4% (168 of 220)
Duplicates: 0

First Pack

The exact contents of the pack scanned in and used to find insert odds:

#111 Scott Nidermayer
#91 Andrew Burnette
#187 Robert Lang
#109 Scott Stevens
MVP Classics Ryan Smyth
#26 Roman Turek
#7 Frantisek Kaberle
#206 Tony Virta

First Pack Comments: Nothing too thrilling here. The Smyth Classics was a nice pull, looks real sharp. The Lang base card was also pretty cool, nice photo of him holding his new Caps jersey at the press conference. But fact is, had I paid $1.99 or whatever for just this pack, wouldn't have been that thrilled.
First Pack Rating: 4 / 10

2002-03 Upper Deck MVP returns to what MVP used to be: a fun break. The Classics cards inserted 1:2 are fun to pull, the myriad of inserts all look nice a sleek and each box will contain a good number of them. The one memorabilia card per box and parallels are a bonus, they add something more to each break.

The card backs on the normal cards are rather pitiful. The base cards don't go into much detail at all, one at random, Mike Peca's says "The 2001-02 Islanders made the playoffs thanks to the addition of Mike Peca". I suppose UD realized that nobody really cares about the back of the card ... and sadly they are probably right. Oddly enough though, the backs on the Classics parallel goes into much more detail than the base cards. Since UD had to make a Classics card for every base card, it's kinda odd they went with inferior text on the base cards.

But like I said, a fun break with chances to hit it big. The box I got was a very nice one. First of all, hit the Chris Drury Shifting to Overdrive, so that is already a plus. I also managed not only an MVP Gold (/100) but also an MVP Golden Classics (/50) of one of the hotter hobby goalies, Arturs Irbe. The memorabilia card I recieved was alright, Osgood practice jersey is certainly respectable. The Classics parallels I got were also very good, mixed in some superstars (Yzerman, Tkachuk) with some younger stars (Cole, Morrison, Smyth) and didn't really have that many duds.

Bottom line, for the price there is no better product. You may scoff at "practice used" stuff, but fact is that doesn't matter. The price is right, it's a fun break, and there is potential for some pretty nice stuff. What more can you ask for?
