This Parkhurst break was very similiar to last year's Parkhurst break ... which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it isn't great either.

To start, the designs are all very similiar to last year's Parkhurst. The classic shiny green (which I can't scan at all!) is back. It's been slightly modified, but for all intentsive purposes, it's the same. The similiarities don't stop in design though, the actual break is very similiar. Last year each box contained the one memorabilia card, one rookie, and one parallel. This year's version of Parkhurst exapnds that a bit by throwing in Hockey's Hardware and College Rank inserts and bumping down the odds on the rookies and parallels to give you a bit more ... around 5 inserts this year as opposed to the 3 from last year. But don't be fooled, it's still a break you only want to be doing if you are collecting the complete set, as about 90% of the cards are base cards.

As for the individual pieces, the Hockey Hardware cards looked really nice ... sadly I couldn't pull any, but they would definately add value. The non-memorabilia College Rank cards don't seem to do much ... after all why go for the non-memorabilia one when ones with jerseys are out there and just a touch rarer (60 as opposed to 100). The rookies are the same old deal, they are nice, but at one or two per, good luck trying to get one you really want. And as usual, the memorabilia card is well worth it, once you finally find it in there. Not the most exciting of breaks, but it has its perks too.

My box was an OK box. The memorabilia card was a decent one, I'm not a big Yashin fan and he seems to be slipping, but it's also two color and limited to only 50. The rookies again were just OK. Gerber's an up and comer, Pirjeta's a an aging player who seems like he'll just hang around for the lousy Blue Jackets. Not horrible rookies ... at least I've heard of both of them, but they aren't Zetterberg and Nash either. The parallels weren't bad, the bronze Samsonov is a nice little pull and the silver of Messier is a pretty nice haul too. I was pretty disappointed not to get one of the Hockey Hardware cards, but I guess not everyone can have them.

While not the most fun of breaks, Parkhurst still delivers a quality poduct. If you missed out on last year's brand you may want to jump into this one while you still have the chance. If you're a Parkhurst veteran, you'll probably be a bit depressed at how little was actually added. For all, I do not recommend buying a box unless you are serious about picking up the base set ... otherwise you'll have 110 new singles to try and trade (hey, maybe to people like me!)
